Walking

With over 280km of footpaths across the area, the Cairngorms and the ancient forests surrounding Aviemore are one of Britain’s most beautiful wild places, with some of the most popular walking terrain in Scotland.  There is a wide variety of designated routes suitable for walkers of all abilities. Cycling

The National Cycle Network crosses almost the entire area and includes 64km of off road routes.  For a real challenge, Laggan Wolftrax offers 18km of the most exciting and demanding off road routes from Scotland’s Forestry Commission.

Snow Sports

Cairngorm Mountain is 15 minutes drive from the centre of Aviemore and offers winter sports enthusiasts a modern ski area with lessons and equipment hire available.  Even if you are not skiing, you can experience the UK’s highest and fastest funicular railway and enjoy UK’s highest restaurant and bar.

 Watersports and Fishing

Loch Insh and Loch Morlich, both in stunningly beautiful natural surroundings offer sailing, windsurfing, canoeing, river trips, rowing and fishing.
Fishing is available on many lochs,rivers and at specially stocked fisheries.

Rafting. A great Highland adventure, rafting on a wild Scottish river with Ace Adventure, Grampian Road, Aviemore, Scotland, PH22 1PT. When you go rafting with Ace you are assured to have a wonderful and memorable day. Trips are run to suit the customers. We have sections of river ideal for young children, youth or school groups while other sections are run for the thrill of the white water experience and come R rated! Ace also run trips for the simple pleasure and scenic feast that a river journey provides.

Canoe Adventures. If you are interested in canoeing visit our friends Dave and Jude at www.sourceadventure.co.uk  They are based at Aberfeldy, about an hour south of Aviemore. Dave has told us that he can organise trips locally around Aviemore, as an indication of cost, his guide fee is £130 per day for a group of up to 6 canoeists or kayakers. Equipment costs come in at £35 per person. Lunch can be provided at an additional cost. He could do 1 day sessions on Loch Insh, introduction to whitewater days or nature tours. He also offers multi day expeditions (equipment cost rise to £50 per day as he includes tents, stoves & waterproof barrels) down the river Spey for 2, 3, 4 or 5 days. Maybe something you could do before or after your stay at Lochan Mor Lodge.


Golf

The Aviemore area offers an impressive total of 117 holes of golf in a wide variety of settings.  The Aviemore and Cairngorm Golf Pass which is available at 8 local courses for £20 entitles you to a 30% discount.
